Adhering to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the Faculty takes the development of two first‑level disciplines, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and Transportation Engineering, to steer professional education and scientific research. Committed to serving the national marine strategy and Zhejiang’s strategy for building a powerful marine province, it promotes high‑quality development of the faculty. In recent years, the faculty has achieved a series of landmark accomplishments in fields including intelligent ship design, marine energy equipment, intelligent marine transportation, modern port‑shipping services and smart logistics.
Remarkable progress has been made in scientific research. Over the past five years, the faculty has presided over more than 50 national‑level projects such as key R&D programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the former National High‑tech R&D Program (863 Program), Major Research Plan projects and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as Horizon Europe projects. It has undertaken over 70 provincial‑ministerial projects including Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D Programs and key projects of Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, with research funds exceeding 100 million yuan. More than 800 academic papers have been published, four academic monographs released, and over 90 invention patents authorized. The faculty has won one Second‑Class Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, four Science and Technology Progress Awards at Zhejiang Provincial and Ningbo municipal levels, and three national‑level industry association awards.
Upholding the integrated development strategy of industry‑university‑research‑application, the faculty closely responds to the development demands of the ship‑ocean industry. It serves local economic growth and industrial transformation and upgrading in multiple forms, such as intellectual services, industrial application of scientific and technological achievements, and policy‑making consultation reports. In the past five years, it has undertaken over 400 horizontal projects entrusted by governments and enterprises, with contractual funds exceeding 100 million yuan, among which 103 projects boast a contract value of more than 300,000 yuan. Sixteen invention patents have been industrialized. More than 50 policy consultation reports have been submitted at different administrative levels, three of which have received instructions from Party and state leaders.
Committed to serving society, the faculty keeps in line with local economic development needs. Through industry‑university‑research cooperation, expert consulting services, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and multi‑level education and training programs, it boosts local economic development and provides scientific and technological support as well as decision‑making reference for major local projects.
