To further enhance students’ awareness of fire safety and improve campus fire prevention and emergency response capabilities, the Faculty of Maritime and Transportation held the first lecture of the 2026 Dormitory Fire Safety Series at the auditorium of Ningbo University’s Meishan Campus on the afternoon of April 29. The activity specially invited Shan Kaiyuan, a gold medal lecturer from the Beilun District Fire Rescue Brigade, as the keynote speaker. All students of the Faculty participated in the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Shan Kaiyuan combined practical campus situations to explain in detail the importance of campus fire safety and deeply analyzed the serious threats posed by various fire accidents to the lives and property safety of teachers and students. This allowed students present to deeply recognize the urgency and necessity of fire safety. Subsequently, Mr. Shan introduced various types of firefighting clothing and equipment used in fire response scenarios, visually displayed some advanced firefighting equipment of the Ningbo Fire and Rescue Brigade through PPT, and explained their functions and applications one by one, fully demonstrating the professional quality and emergency response capabilities of the Ningbo firefighting team.

During the key session of the lecture, Mr. Shan focused on the issue of frequent dormitory fires in universities, analyzed the main causes of dormitory fires in depth, and introduced in detail the types of common prohibited electrical appliances in dormitories and their potential hazards. He emphasized the importance of strengthening students’ dormitory safety awareness and strictly avoiding the use of prohibited electrical appliances. To enhance students’ understanding, Mr. Shan combined several real cases of serious dormitory fires in universities, vividly reconstructed the accident processes and analyzed the causes. The shocking cases deeply impressed the students present and further helped them recognize the dangers of fires and the serious consequences of improper electrical use.

Finally, Mr. Shan focused on the key points of scientific escape methods in response to sudden fire situations. He emphasized that students must remain calm when a fire occurs and master basic escape skills proficiently. At the same time, he introduced the correct use of filtering respirators in detail and conducted an on-site practical demonstration, providing hands-on guidance to help students master key operation procedures and ensure that they can use the equipment effectively in emergency situations.

This fire safety lecture featured detailed content and strong relevance, effectively helping students master basic fire safety knowledge and enhancing their awareness and ability for self-rescue, mutual rescue, and emergency response when facing sudden fires. In the future, the Faculty of Maritime and Transportation will continue to carry out regular fire safety publicity activities, achieve full coverage of fire safety education among all students, promote fire safety awareness, strictly prevent the use of prohibited electrical appliances in dormitories, and firmly build a campus fire safety defense line.
