Ling Wan is a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the Faculty of Maritime and Transportation, Ningbo University, where he leads the research area of Ocean Renewable Energy Equipment and Engineering. He has been selected for the Zhejiang Provincial Overseas High-Level Young Talent Program and the Ningbo Yongjiang Young Innovation Talent Program. Before joining Ningbo University, he was an Assistant Professor at Newcastle University in Singapore and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Marine Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2016 under the supervision of Professor Torgeir Moan and Professor Zhen Gao.
His research focuses on coupled dynamics and efficient structural-load analysis of floating offshore wind turbines; integrated wind, wave, and tidal energy systems; extreme-environment structural safety; engineering software and digital twins; and numerical-experimental validation. His team develops computational methods and programs for multi-body hydrodynamic-load reconstruction, frequency-to-time-domain load transfer, boundary-element-to-finite-element load mapping, mooring-system assessment, dynamic-cable configuration analysis, structural-state estimation, and operational-load prediction.
He has served as principal investigator or task/subproject leader for projects supported by the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Key Research and Development Program of Zhejiang Province, the Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province, the Ningbo Key Research and Development Program, the Ningbo Yongjiang Talent Program, and industry. He has published more than 50 papers, including over 40 SCI-indexed journal papers, and holds five granted invention patents (including one Dutch patent) and two registered software copyrights.
