Tianyu Zhang is a young talent recruited under the Key Talent Program of Zhejiang Province. He is a core member (ranked 2nd out of 12) of the Zhejiang Provincial Leading Innovative and Entrepreneurial Team led by Professor Yaqing Shu, a national level young talent. He is also a Yongjiang Talent of Ningbo City and a professor at the Maritime College of Ningbo University. He has presided over projects such as the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation.
In 2015, the applicant was admitted to the directdoctoral program at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, where he joined the team led by Professor Xiaoming Sun (a recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund) and was supervised by Professor Junfeng Liu (a Talent of the Ministry of Education). In 2019, he conducted an exchange visit in Professor Bin Liu’s group at Nanyang Technological University. After graduation, he carried out postdoctoral research in the groups of Professor Lei Wang at the National University of Singapore and Professor Zhengxiao Guo (a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences) at the University of Hong Kong. In 2025, he was appointed as a full professor and joined the “New Energy for Ships Innovation Team” led by Professor Jinliang Yuan, where he works full time on the controlled preparation and application of new energy electrodes for naval architecture and marine engineering.
His research focuses on atomically precise chemistry of catalysts and nano scale surface/interfacial chemistry. Through systematic modeling studies, he has elucidated the mechanisms that limit catalytic activity. By tailoring materials, he has constructed novel materials that are highly efficient, stable, durable, and application oriented under harsh operating conditions.
As first and corresponding author, he has published ~20 SCI papers in journals including Nature Communications (3), Advanced Materials (3), Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Energy Materials (2), Advanced Functional Materials, and Journal of Energy Chemistry. Among these, 12 papers have an impact factor >15, 1 is an ESI highly cited paper, and 7 papers have received over 100 citations each. His total citations exceed 1760, with an H index of 21.
