Professor Yang Yang was born in August 1992 in China and has obtained his PhD in Power Machinery and Engineering from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2020. He is now a full professor based in Faculty of Maritime and Transportation at Ningbo University, China. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral research associate under the supervision of Prof Musa Bashir and Prof Jin Wang during Oct. 2018 to Dec. 2020 in Liverpool John Moores University, where he worked on coupled modelling and structural health monitoring of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) funded by the ARCWIND project. Since 2013, starting as a research student, he has focused on the development of fully coupled modelling methodologies and simulation software for FOWTs and hybrid systems. He has created a range of numerical simulation tools, including: (i) SAF: For seismic coupled analysis and structural control of fixed-bottom wind turbines. (ii) F2A: For fully coupled analysis of FOWTs supported by multi-body floaters (publicly available on GitHub at https://github.com/yang7857854/F2A). (iii) TwinRotor: For multi-physics simulation of novel wind energy systems with dual rotors. (iv) TwinFAST: For novel FOWTs with multiple wind turbines installed on a single platform. The fully coupled modelling technologies developed by the fellow have been applied in several practical FOWT projects in China, such as the Wanning wind farm. Since joining Ningbo University in 2021, he has been the principal investigator of 20+ projects funded by Chinese governmental organizations and industrial companies. He has published one book and over 70 journal papers as the first or corresponding author, with 2700+ citations on Google Scholar (H-Index 23). He has also served as an editor and guest editor for several international journals and as a committee member of the Zhejiang Institute of Naval Architecture.
